Sergio Flores, Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Television Graduate, To Study with Béla Tarr:

Sergio Flores, Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Television Graduate, To Study with Béla Tarr

Sergio Flores has become the first filmmaker from the Western Hemisphere to be selected—among a mere seventeen worldwide—to undertake the doctoral program created by renowned Hungarian director Béla Tarr.

Sergio Flores, a CENTRO Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Television graduate, is now in Sarajevo studying a Film Factory Programme PhD at that city’s prestigious Film Academy cinema school. For Sergio it is the opportunity of a lifetime.

Famed filmmaker Béla Tarr undertook the program’s entire design and has invited the world’s best directors to serve on the faculty, including Gus Van Sant, Aki Kaurismaki, Fred Kellemen, Jim Jarmusch, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Thor Fridriksson, Tilda Swinton and Mexico’s Carlos Reygadas.

Sergio will enjoy a tremendous opportunity to learn from the greats and put his own abilities to the test, the same abilities that led him to be recognized as one of the world’s most promising cineastes. Tarr personally reviewed his work and invited Flores to join his group of seventeen lucky world filmmakers.

Sergio previously worked on two television series for Canal Once, entitled Niño santo and Soy tu fan. He later worked at Canana Films as a post-producer. Since then, he has been developing independent directorial projects.
